go (honorable) + han (meal) = a meal ain’t a meal without rice

The staple food of Japanese cuisine, a meal is not complete without rice. A bowl of white rice is so ubiquitous in Japanese meals that it is not uncommon to find it served alongside noodle or bread dishes. White rice is king (or emperor!) of the Japanese diet. And for those of you cringing at the carbs, I urge you to compare obesity rates in Japan and North America. Case closed. I win. Eat rice.
